This item gives a brief general introduction to the peer review process at European Journal of Gynaecological Oncology.
Preliminary review: all submitted manuscript are evaluated initially by an editor of the journal according to the following criteria:
the material is original and timely;
the manuscript is written clearly in accordance to the author instruction;
appropriate study methods have been used;
the data are valid;
the conclusions are reasonable and well supported by the data;
the information contained in the manuscript is important, topical, and medically relevant.
The editorial office may reject the manuscripts that are not novel or not suitable for European Journal of Gynaecological Oncology.
Peer review: a manuscript that satisfied the preliminary review will be sent to at least two external reviewers for peer review. The results of the peer review will directly influence the editor's decision. External experts review the manuscript and make recommendations and submit a review report.
Re-review: you may need to review the revised manuscript and make a recommendation.
Editor make a decision: The Editor(s)-in-Chief makes a decision on the manuscript based on peer review recommendations, for which there are four options: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.
Author appeal: the editorial office will send the author's complaint manuscript to you. You should reply and make a recommendation. If you are a reviewer that the authors ask to avoid, the editor will consider other reviewers.

Peer review: 1 - 2 months
