The greatest promise for success in our assault on cancer will come from the optimized intervention of preventative and therapeutic measures specifically tailored to the individual. This prescription to use “the right therapy, at the right time, in the right patient” is the paradigm that underscores the heart of precision medicine. Elucidation and strategic intervention of the underlying molecular framework of cancer will illuminate the discovery roadmap and introduce novel approaches to cancer care. Recent successes of therapy informed from early work in genomics justify the tremendous excitement surrounding these concepts.
This issue should use the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) definition of Precision Medicine, which use tumor genomic, proteomics, and transcriptomic information to prevent, diagnose or treat a disease, to the study of gynecologic cancers.
