Cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cancer are the three common malignant tumors of female reproductive system. Patients with early gynecological malignancies could have a satisfactory prognosis. However, once the tumor recurrence or metastasis, the prognosis of patients is very poor. Hence, it is urge to research the mechanism of tumor metastasis and find effective treatment.
The main patterns of recurrence and metastasis are different during cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cancer. Cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cancer are characterized by direct invasion, lymph node jumping metastasis and disseminated and planted in pelvic and abdominal cavity, respectively. Consequently, the best treatment strategy is different during the three malignancies. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy are common means to decrease the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Others, include immunotherapy and biophysical therapy, are optional. However, it is still an important issue that how to accurately predict postoperative recurrence and metastasis and improve prognosis.
This special issue is devoted to research the recurrence and metastasis on cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cancer. All basic or clinical research are welcome, including but not limited to markers, mechanism research and promising treatment on tumor recurrence and metastasis.
