Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Surgical cytoreduction and chemotherapy are the hallmark of treatment for women with advanced ovarian cancer. The literature consistently demonstrates that residual disease status, at the completion of surgical cytoreduction, remains an important prognostic factor in patient survival. Whether surgery is done in the primary setting, or as an interval procedure in the neoadjuvant setting, advanced surgical resection techniques are commonly necessary to achieve an optimal cytoreduction. Hence, the gynecologic surgical team needs to be familiar with these advanced surgical techniques to optimize treatment outcomes in ovarian cancer.

In this special issue, the authors will present information regarding advanced surgical techniques utilized in the management of advanced ovarian cancer. Various approaches to radical procedures including bowel resection, splenectomy, lymphadenectomy, HIPEC and diaphragm resection will be presented and described. When appropriate, surgical video links will additionally be provided.
